On Saturday, the Upsala Blue Jays were scheduled to travel to Spring Hill to take on the Stearns County League Chargers.  And, for the 3rd year in a row, the game between the Jays and Spring Hill was rained out.  The game will not be made up.

On Sunday, the big West Division rivalry was renewed up “The Hill” in Sobieski as the Jays traveled to Polish Town for a key early season match-up.  And the fans were treated to a great game.  The Skis opened the scoring with a run in the 1st off of Upsala starter, Matt Swanson.  The Jays then tied it in the 4th with a lead-off homerun from Joe Bartkowicz.  The Jays then took a 2-1 lead in the 5th with a 2 out single by Bartkowicz that plated Dustin Biniek.  The lead was short lived as the Skis scored 3 in the bottom half of the 5th.  The game stayed 4-2 to the 9th when the Blue Jays mounted their comeback.  Skis starter, Tyler Jendro, walked Adam Gerads to lead off the inning.  Following a ground out, Brock Cichon worked a base on balls putting runners on 1st and 2nd.  After another ground out moved runners to 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs, Dustin Biniek delivered a 2-run double with 2 strikes to plate the tying runs.  Jendro retired the next batter to end the inning.  In the bottom of the 9th, reliever John Fuchs worked out of a bases loaded situation to send the game to extras.  The game stayed tied until the 12th when the Jays plated 5 runs of off Skis reliever, Nathan Olson, with RBI hits from Matt Swanson, Adam Gerards, Ben Burggraff and Brock Cichon.  The Skis would make it interesting in the bottom half getting the tying run to the plate, but Fuchs got a 5-3 double play to end it.  Both teams are now 2-1 in the Victory League West.  Upsala moves to 3-1 overall.

Upsala was led by 7 relief innings from John Fuchs to pick up the win.  Joe Bartkowicz had a couple hits including 2 RBI and a homerun.  Adam Gerads delivered 3 hits and Matt Swanson, Ben Burggraff, and Brock Cichon chipped in with 2 knocks a piece.

This weekend the Blue Jays welcome the Skis to Varsity Field in Upsala for the rematch on Saturday @ 1:30.  On Sunday, the North leading Fort Ripley Rebels travel to Upsala for another 1:30 start.
