The Upsala Blue Jays 2016 season came to a close this weekend as the team dropped a pair of games at the Region 8C tournament. On Saturday the Blue Jays fell by an 8-3 score to the Nisswa Lightning. Jason Roepke provided the big hit of the game for NIsswa, a 3 run-homer in the 3rd inning which put the Lightning up 4-1. Tory Miller, Luke Schumer, and Nate Dechaine all had 2 hits for NIsswa. Dustin Biniek, Brock Cichon, and Brady Burggraff all had 2 hits for Upsala.
On Sunday the Jays played the Avon Lakers in an elimination game. Avon took this one by a 6-1 final. Kyle Collins was sharp on the mound for the Lakers, pitching effectively into the 8th inning while allowing just the one run. Upsala would build threats late in the game, but the Jays were unable to close the deficit. Caleb Curry and Matt Meyer had 2 hits a piece for the Lakers. The Jays had just 5 hits total from 5 different players.
Upsala finishes with a record of 15-9. Check back in a few weeks for a season recap.
