The Upsala Blue Jays wrapped up the regular season with a pair of road games this past weekend. On Friday evening the Jays traveled to Brainerd to play the Fort Ripley Rebels in a game under the lights at Mills Field. Upsala received an outstanding pitching performance from veteran right-hander John Fuchs. Fuchs threw a complete game, earning the win in a 7-3 victory for the Jays. All 9 starters for Upsala had at least 1 hit, and Brock Cichon had the big game at the plate for the Blue Jays, going 4-5. Justin Cichon, Matt Swanson, Adam Gerads, and Brandon Welinski all had 2 hit days for Upsala. Jason Sather had 3 hits for Fort Ripley.
On Saturday the Jays traveled to Flensburg to do battle with the Falcons. Upsala controlled this one the whole way behind a solid pitching effort from Chris Ripplinger. RIpplinger gave up just 1 run over 5 effective innings in the 8-2 victory.. Matt Swanson had a huge day for Upsala going 5-5 at the plate, while Eric Lampert added 3 hits of his own. A.J. Jenks had 3 hits for Flensburg. The loss ended the season for the Falcons, while the victory clinched the 2 seed for Upsala in the Victory League West playoffs. That means Upsala will host an opening round playoff game this coming weekend. The #3 seed Randall Cubs will be the opponent, as first pitch is slated for 1:30 on Saturday in Upsala. Pending those results, the Blue Jays will either play at #1 seed Sobieski on Sunday, or will host the #4 seed Opole Bears.
