Upsala Blue Jays

05/06/2015 - Blue Jays Drop League Home Opener

The Upsala Blue Jays dropped their league home opener 6-3 to thier West division rival Randall Cubs.  The Jays got on the board first as Justin Lampert belted a 2 run homer to left in the bottom of the 1st.  Randall would take a 3-2 lead in the middle innings, but Upsala tied the game at 3-3 in the 6th off a solo homerun by Adam Gerads.  Randall  would take the lead for good, as the Cubs took a 4-3 lead in the 8th, and added 2 more in the 9th off a 2-run homer by Cubs shortstop Pete Herman.  Upsala threatened in the bottom of the 9th, loading the bases with one out.  But Randall starting pitcher Kyle Boser worked out of the jam to preserve the win.  Boser went the distance in the win, striking out 8.  Matt Swanson took the loss for Upsala in relief.

Justin Cichon led all hitters with 3 hits for Upsala.  Adam Gerads and Justin Lampert each homered for Upsala.  Pete Herman and Jeremy Klein led Randall with 2 hits a piece.  The loss dropped Upsala to 1-1 in Victory League play, and 2-1 overall.

The Blue Jays are back in action this coming Sunday with a road trip to Fort Ripley to take on the Rebels (1-1 VL North).  First pitch is slated for 1:30.
