Upsala Blue Jays

08/06/2014 - Season Comes To A Close

The Upsala Blue Jays season came to an end this past weekend, just one game away from a seat in the state tournament.  For the 5th time this season, the Jays would fall to West Division rival Sobieski, which secured a state tournament spot for the Skis.  In front of a packed crowd in Upsala on Saturday, Sobieski would down the Jays 10-0 in 7 innings.  Matt Swanson would start on the hill for the Jays, but an 1 1/2 hour rain delay after 3 innings would force Swanson to move from the mound and out to the outfield.  Upsala would have just 6 hits, failing to push across any runs against Sobieski ace Tyler Jendro.  Justin Lampert and Brady Burggraff each had two hits for the Blue Jays.  John Czech and Tyler Jendro led the way for the Skis with 3 hits a piece.

With Upsala hosting the region tournament this past weekend, there was an incredible amount of support shown by the local community.  The Blue Jays would like to thank everyone who came out to support the Blue Jays, UBA, the Upsala community, and the other teams around the Victory League.  It made for a great weekend of baseball!

WIth that said, there still is action at Varsity Field this weekend, as the Region 8C championship will be played on Saturday.  The Lastrup Lakers will square off against the Nisswa Lightning.  Lastrup beat Nisswa earlier in the tournament by an 8-6 margin.  First pitch is scheduled for 1 P.M. in Upsala.  Nisswa needs to beat Lastrup twice, so if the Lightning win the first game, there will be another game played following the conclusion of the first game.

Stay tuned for a season wrap up in the next couple of weeks.
