The Upsala Blue Jays continue to play good baseball. On Saturday the Jays traveled to Flensburg to take on the Falcons in a Victory League West matchup. Upsala would sweep the season series with the Falcons after a 10-1 victory of Flensburg. This was a much closer game than the final score would indicate, as the Blue Jays only led 3-1 entering the final inning, but Upsala would put the game away by scoring 7 runs off of Flensburg starting pitcher Pauly (Wanna Cracker) Krebs. Brandon Welinski would earn the win, pitching 6 shutout innings. Chris Ripplinger would earn the save after allowing just 1 run over the final 3 innings. Dustin Biniek, Eric Lampert, and Matt Swanson all had multi-hit games for Upsala. Nathan Masog had 2 hits for Flensburg. With the win the Blue Jays moved to 8-1 in league play, while Flensburg dropped to 1-9.
On Sunday Upsala was scheduled to play St. Stephen, however the game was postponed due to poor field conditions following the storms Saturday night/ Sunday morning. The game has been re-scheduled for June 28th.
The Blue Jays are back at it again this coming weekend with a pair of games against the Randall Cubs (5-3 VL). On Saturday Upsala travels to Randall, and on Sunday the Cubs will visit Upsala. Both games are slated for a 1:30 start.
Also, the drawing for the Upsala Blue Jays/UBA raffle will be held on Sunday following the game. Please see a Blue Jays player or an UBA member if you would like tickets or have any questions.
Happy Father's Day to all the Dad's out there!
