Upsala Blue Jays

07/17/2013 - Playoffs Split

The Upsala Blue Jays split a pair of playoff games this past weekend.   The Jays opened the West playoffs with a 6-1 win over Royalton.  On Sunday, the Blue Jays fell in 10 innings to Sobieski 3-2.  Upsala now stands at 13-6 on the season.

Saturday, Upsala got a strong pitching performance from John Fuchs and timely hitting from Matt Swanson, Adam Gerads, and Justin Lampert to take down the River Dogs from Royalton.  Fuchs went 8 innings while striking out 4 and not walking a batter; although he did hit 3.  Swanson, Gerads, and Lampert combined for 7 hits and drove in all 6 Blue Jays’ runs.  Chris Ripplinger finished up on the mound with a perfect 9th inning.

Sunday, the Jays traveled to Sobieski for marquee pitcher’s duel between Matt Swanson and Tyler Jendro.  Both pitchers did not disappoint going 9 innings and each giving up 2 runs.  The game was decided in the bottom of the 10 after a defensive miscue by the Jays allowed the winning run to score from second.  Matt Swanson led the Jays at the plate with a couple hits.
