Upsala Blue Jays

06/26/2013 - Sunday Split

The Upsala Blue Jays split a pair of road games on Sunday.  First, the Jays traveled to Pierz to take on the Lastrup Lakers.  The game was played at Legion Field as the field in Lastrup was unplayable due to heavy rains the previous several days.  The Jays started quickly and didn’t look back.  Matt Swanson pitched a 7-inning, complete game; 3 hit shutout as the Jays won 12-0.  Joe Bartkowicz delivered the knockout punch with a 5th inning grand slam.

Next, the Jays would travel to Sobieski to take on the Skis in a battle for the West Division lead.  The win earlier in the day meant that the division could not be settled in this one.  This game went just the opposite as the first game of the day.  Sobieski won this one 10-0 in 7 innings.  The loss means that Sobieski now has control of the division race.  Upsala will have to win both games this upcoming weekend and beat Sobieski by at least 10 runs to have a chance at the crown.

The Blue Jays have a pair of home games this weekend as they welcome Royalton and Sobieski to Varsity Field for 1:30 starts on Saturday and Sunday respectively.  Also, Sunday after the game, will be the annual Blue Jays/UBA raffle with proceeds going to help fund improvements to all ball fields in Upsala.  Contact your favorite Blue Jays for tickets.  We all appreciate the support.
