Upsala Blue Jays

06/19/2013 - Jays Move Into First Place Tie

UPSALA WILL CO-HOST THE 2014 REGION 8C TOURNAMENT

The Upsala Blue Jays started their second half of the regular season with a pair of weekend home games.  On Saturday the Blue Jays welcomed the Pierz Bulldogs.  Chris Ripplinger got the start on the mound and pitched 6 good innings.  He was helped out by outfielder Matt Swanson, who got the Jays off on the right foot with a 3-run homer in the first.  Matt would add another 3-run home later in the game and finish the day perfect at the plate.  The Jays went on to win 10-5.

On Sunday, Upsala welcomed the always plucky Flensburg Falcons to town.  As expected, the Jays got all they wanted from the Falcons, who somehow is still looking for their first win of the season.  John Fuchs got the start on the mound and pitched into the 7th when Matt Swanson relieved him.  Swanson would work out of a 1 out jam and get the last 8 outs for the save.  Joe Bartkowicz added a homerun on the offense.

The Blue Jays are now 8-1 in the Victory League West Division and tied for first place with Sobieski.  Check out the complete box scores for these and all games by clicking the final score next to the game. This weekend the Jays have a pair of games on Sunday.  Upsala will travel Lastrup on Sunday for a noon tilt.  After the game, the Jays will stop in Sobieski on the way home for a 4:00 PM (estimate) start.  This will be the first of 2 regular season games with the Skis.
