The up and down season for the Upsala Blue Jays continued this past week-end as the Jays again came away with a weekend split. On Saturday, Royalton came to Upsala to close out the regular season home schedule for the Blue Jays and the Riverdogs came away with a 6-2 win. Royalton scored a pair of runs in the first, second, and fourth innings off of Jays’ starter, Matt Swanson. Swanson battled control issues all day issuing 9 walks, 4 of which touched home plate. John Fuchs and BJ Lange pitched scoreless relief for the Jays, but it wasn’t enough as Dogs pitcher, Shawn Lanners pitched a complete game. Upsala was led at the plate by Brock Cichon who gathered a pair of hits in the loss.
On Sunday, Upsala traveled to Flensburg for another West Division match-up. Led by the pitching of Chris Ripplinger and Brandon Welinski, the Jays came away with a 5-1 win. Rippling fired 6 innings of shut-out ball for the win well Welinski pitched the final 3 innings only allowing an unearned run. Brady Burggraff continued his great season at the plate going 1-2 with 3 walks and a pair of RBI. Justin Lampert added 2 hits and Matt Swanson added a pair including a home run. The Jays are now 9-7 overall on the season and 6-6 in the Victory League West and tied for 3rd place.

This weekend the Blue Jays have a pair of road games to close out the regular season. On Saturday, the Jays travel to Freeport for a 1:30 start and then on Sunday Upsala is in Randall for a pivotal West Division match-up that could very well decide who will be the 3rd seed for the playoffs. Show your support for the home town team as they make their push for a successful close to the regular season.
