Upsala Blue Jays

06/20/2017 - Blue Jays WIn A Pair

The Upsala Blue Jays won a pair of league games in convincing fashion this past weekend.

On Saturday the Blue Jays traveled to Flensburg to play the Flensburg Falcons.  Earlier in the season, Upsala had defeated Flensburg 12-0 at Varsity Field in Upsala.  The result of this game was simliar, as the Blue Jays would pound out 20 hits in 24-4 victory.  Brandon Welinski, Brady Burggraff, and Justin Cichon all had 3 hits for Upsala.  Sam Nagel had 2 hits for Flensburg, one of which was a homerun.  Brock CIchon earned the win for Upsala, while Kevin Johnson took the loss for Flensburg.

On Sunday, the Blue Jays welcomed the Swanville Swans to Varsity Field in Upsala.  Upsala and Swanville faced off in the season opener, as Upsala defeated Swanville by a 20-0 score to open the year.  The result here was once again similar, as Upsala went on to defeat Swanville 22-0.  Brock Cichon led Upsala with 3 hits, while Brandon Welinski, Eric Lampert, Paul Krebs, and Tyler Evans all had 2 hits a piece.  Colton Kruzel was 1-1 with a double for Swanville.  John Fuchs earned the win for Upsala, while Troy Evans took the loss for Swanville.

The Blue Jays will step away from league action this coming weekend, as the team will take part in the Staples tournament on Saturday and Sunday.  In a rematch of last years tournament championship game, Upsala is set to play the Long Prairie Predators on Saturday at noon in the first round of the 8 team tournament.  Upsala will then play either Clear Lake or Duluth at 4 PM om Saturday.  The Blue Jays will also play a game on Sunday, but the time is TBD pending the results from Saturdays's action.
