05/02/2017 - Jays Win Second Straight

The Upsala Blue Jays played their second straight road game to open the year as the team traveled to Avon this past Sunday.  Avon and Upsala met in the Region 8C tournament last season, in which Avon ended the Blue Jays season by beating the Jays by a 6-1 score. This time around the Blue Jays would get the best of the Lakers, as Upsala defeated the in a 10-6 final.  Eric Lampert was the starting pitcher for the Jays, allowing just 2 hits and 1 run over 5 innings of work.  Avon countered with lefty Putter Harlander.  Avon would get on the board first, as the Lakers would string together a pair of 2 out hits in the 4th inning, the second being an RBI single off the bat of Carter Holthaus.  The Jays finally broke through in the 6th inning, when Upsala would score 5 times, highlighted by a pair of 2 run singles by Brady Burggraff and Brandon Welinski.  The Blue Jays would take on 5 more runs over the 7th, 8th, and 9th innings.  The Lakers would threaten late, but Paul Krebs would earn the save for Upsala, preserving the 10-6 victory. 

5 players had multi-hit games for Upsala, including the aforementioned Burggraff and Welinski.  Matt Meyer and Carter Holthaus each had 2 hits for Avon.

The Blue Jays will be on the road for the 3rd straight week, as Upsala will travel to Opole on Sunday.  The Opole Bears are currently 1-1 in Victory League play.  First pitch is slated for 1:30 from Red Bialka Field in Opole.
