Upsala Blue Jays

04/28/2017 - Season Is Under Way

The 2017 season began this past weekend as the Upsala Blue Jays traveled to Swanville for the season opener.  The Swanville Swans were playing their inaugural game as a member of the Victory League, as the Swans are the newest member of the league.

The Jays left little doubt in this one, as Upsala cruised to a 20-0 victory in a 7-inning game that was shortened due to the 10-run rule.  The Blue Jays scored 5 runs in the top of the first, highlighted by a 3-run double from Adam Gerads. Upsala would extend the lead in the 3rd to 8-0.  The big inning came in the 4th, as the Jays plated 10 runs.  Ben Burggraff belted a 3-run homer to left in that big inning.  Brady Burggraff also doubled in a pair of runs as well.  Johnny Fuchs earned the win for Upsala, with relief from Eric Lampert, Paul Krebs, and Matt Swanson.

Ben Burggraff and Adam Gerads each had 3 hits for Upsala.  Austin Johnson and Derek Pfeiffer had the two hits for Swanville.  Johnson also took the loss for the Swans.

The Blue Jays are back in action this coming weekend, as Upsala will be on the road for the second week in a row.  The Jays will travel to Avon to play the Avon Lakers.  Upsala's season came to an end last season following a 6-1 loss to Avon in the Region 8C tournament in Pierz.  First pitch is slated for a 1:30 start on Sunday in Avon.
